Southington Driver Accused Of Ramming Pedestrian Charged

A woman accused of intentionally hitting a man with her car is facing a serious assault charge, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A woman accused of intentionally running over a man with her car in a domestic incident Thursday afternoon in Southington has been arrested after being released from the hospital, police said Friday.

Diane Skwiot, 57, of Southington, is now facing a first-degree assault charge for the incident, police said.

Her bond was set at $450,000.

At about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Southington Police received a 911 call from a witness reporting that a pedestrian had ben hit by a car on the West Street I-84 overpass.

According to a report, a 2014 Dodge Avenger, driven by Skwiot was heading north on West Street, on the east side of the bridge. As Skwiot reached the north end of the bridge, she intentionally drove her vehicle into the southbound lane, onto the west side of the bridge and struck a man who was walking on the bridge's west sidewalk. The man was knocked into the road and sustained serious injuries, according to police.

Witnesses reported that Skwiot then exited her vehicle and briefly stood near the vehicle before walking away, according to a report.

She was located by officers a short distance away near the I-84 westbound off ramp, a report indicates.
Police said Skwiot was was transported to an area hospital. They had to wait for her release before taking her into custody.

The man was transported to an area hospital with a "moderate brain injury," but is expected to survive, police said.
