  • “My mom is 80 years old and volunteers her time twice a week teaching an exercise/line dancing class at the Calendar House at the senior center in Southington. She begins the class with a prayer and then they exercise to music with and without weights. She does some exercises with a ball and they do marching. She finishes the class with line dancing lessons and picks easy dances that she knows. She also is a cancer survivor, so she participates in Relay for Life every year.”

Why do you feel is this person an Everyday Hero?

  • “Instead of sitting home and watching life go by, as many elderly people do, she actually lives her life to the fullest. She is in great physical condition and looks forward to the time she spends at the Calendar House. Even though she is on a fixed income, she buys her own music to share with the women and learns new dances to teach them. She spends a lot of her own time practicing and preparing for her classes. She’s always happy to pitch in whenever they need volunteers.”
