Southington FD Probes Cause Of Late-Night House Fire

The initial report was for fire in the walls near a home fireplace, according to the SFD.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local fire officials are investigating the cause of a residential blaze late Tuesday night that damage a home on Edgewood Circle.

According to the Southington Fire Department, firefighters were called at about 11:48 p.m. to 12 Edgewood Circle for a report of fire in the walls around a fireplace.

Several units were dispatched and the first arriving reported smoke showing from the home and activated the “working fre protocol,” according to the SFD.

As a result, Bristol Fire Department and Meriden Fire Department firefighters were brought to the scene while town coverage was provided by the Plainville Volunteer Fire Co., Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, and New Britain Fire Department.

The SFD said the residence was evacuated and crews found smoke coming from the wall around the chimney.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and overhaul the area, preventing further extension into the home.

The Southington Building Official was requested to respond to the scene while crews extinguished the fire.

The fire is being investigated by the Southington Fire Marshal’s Office.
