Southington Council Resurrects SHS Roof Committee
The makeup of the new SHS roof building committee is the same as the last one.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — A few weeks after Election Day voters said yes to a $6.92-million roof project for Southington High School, town officials have formed the group that will oversee it.
The Southington Town Council Nov. 28 unanimously formed a Southington High School Roof Building Committee to manage the work at the school.
"The voters of the Town of Southington have approved the Southington High School roof. Because we are receiving state money for it, we do need a building committee," Southingotn Town Manager Mark J. Sciota said.

This, Sciota said, was the same group as nearly four years ago, when another portion of the SHS roof was addressed in a project.
"They did the last building committee, so they're very familiar with how the roof works," Sciota said.
On Nov. 8, voters said "yes" to spending $6.92 million to finish the reconstruction of the SHS roof. The vote was clear: 14,234 "yes" votes to only 5,543 "no" votes to the project.
School officials had said the roof project was necessary given the amount of wear-and-tear on SHS, as there is still a piece of SHS roof slated for replacement following a 2019 overhaul.
