Southington Foundation Has Grants Available For Mental Health Causes

The deadline for local nonprofits to apply to the Main Street Community Foundation is Feb. 6.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A regional charitable foundation serving Southington is looking for applicants to tap into grants that would fund mental health initiatives locally.

Main Street Community Foundation is currently accepting letters of intent for grants from the Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust out of Southington.

The Bristol-based foundation is a nonprofit public charity created by private citizens and works with donors in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott.

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations for new capital projects, programs, or initiatives that improve the health of Southington residents, especially in the priority areas of behavioral health, healthcare needs for an aging population, as well as healthy initiatives and lifestyle.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 16, at 4:30 p.m.

Interested 501(c)(3) organizations must contact Kate Kerchaert, director of grants and programs,
at kate@mainstreetfoundation.org or 860-583-6363 for a preliminary discussion at least 7 business days prior to the deadline.

The Online Grants Center can be accessed through the foundation’s website,

criteria.

In 2023, Main Street Community Foundation awarded a total of over $900,000 from the Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust.

Originally established in 1973 by the late Bradley Henry Barnes of Southington to support the health and health care needs of Southington residents, the trust was transferred to
Main Street Community Foundation in 2004.

Since then, more than $12 million has been granted from it to improve the health of Southington residents.
