Southington Gas Station Robbed By Gunman After He Used Restroom: SPD

Southington police said a suspect made off with the cash register's contents and remains at large.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police are investigating a late-night armed robbery at a Southington gas station in which a male suspect made off with between $1,500 and $1,800.

According to the Southington Police Department, the incident happened at about 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Mobil station, 1896 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike, Southington.

Police said officers were called to that address for a report of an armed robbery.

According to police, the store's clerk said a Black male, wearing a black puffy coat, dark pants, white sneakers and a mask entered the story and asked to use the bathroom.

Police said when the male suspect returned, he pointed a handgun (a Glock-style firearm) at the clerk, threw a garbage bag at him and demanded cash from the register.

The clerk reported the register had between $1,500 and $1,800 in cash, police said.

Southington police, assisted by Cheshire police and Connecticut State Police, searched the area but could not locate the male, the SPD said in a release.

SPD officials said officers were able to track the suspect's movements and are working to obtain additional evidence to identify the suspect.

SPD detectives responded and were able to obtain evidence and a video recording of the incident, police said.
