Southington Helps Teens With High Cost Of Proms

Southington is offering a free 'Pop-Up Prom Shop' for local teens and those from out of the area, with attire and accessories available.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — One of the more memorable rites of passage in a teen's life is the prom, but it is also one of the most expensive.

And, for some, it is too expensive to even attend.

But Southington Community Services is looking to fix that for local teens and, even, teens from outlying communities.

Department officials said the shop is a small, brown building on the site with the store identified via a sign on the windows.

There, teenagers and their families simply can go inside and try on a prom dress or suit, along with shoes and jewelry ؅— all free of charge. All items are in good condition and donated.

The shop operates with no questions asked and the offerings are free for anyone, regardless of where they live or their family's income.

"It is for all high school students, regardless of financial status or town of residency," wrote Southington Community Services Aide Krysta Tsangarides.

For those who cannot make the shop's openings on March 2 and March 9, they can schedule an appointment with the department to check out what is available.
