Southington Finalizes Bridge Replacement Project
The Southington Town Council vote was unanimous.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Town officials have approved a contract that will be awarded to a Watertown contractor to replace a bridge spanning a local brook on a town road.
The Southington Town Council unanimously said "yes" Oct. 24 to awarding a $1.188 million contract to Watertown-based Dayton Construction.
That company will oversee the replacement of a bridge on Marion Avenue in Southington that spans Humiston Brook.

While the town is awarding the bid, it is only paying for 20 percent of the cost, according to Southington Town Manager Mark J. Sciota at last week's meeting.
The rest of the project will be funded by the fedeal government.

"This is part of a federal program," Sciota said.
In an invitation to bid issued late last summer, the town cited the bridge's "deteriorated condition" as the main reason the bridge project was necessary.
The town said the proposed improvement includes replacing the existing bridge with a box culvert and upgrading the bridge rail and approach guiderail , among other actions.
