Southington Honey Co. To Hold Fall Pop-Up Shops To Feed The Hungry

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington Honey Co., a social enterprise created by Bread for Life to provide vocational opportunities for its clients, will hold three pop-up shops this fall.

The shops will be held at Bread for Life, 31 Vermont Ave., allowing residents to purchase locally produced honey, body care products, and other items.

The scheduled pop-up shops are Thursday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Bread for Life launched the Southington Honey Co. initiative in 2021 with funding from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain.

The goal was to provide clients with basic vocational training while developing small businesses that could be staffed by the people Bread for Life serves.

The organization said the program reflects its belief that addressing hunger involves more than providing meals and includes helping people develop work skills and regain a sense of purpose.

Southington Honey Co. maintains beehives behind the community garden and produces fresh honey, along with body care products and other items.

Its products are also sold weekly at the Southington Farmers Market, according to Bread for Life.

Proceeds and community support help Bread for Life continue its broader mission, summarized by the organization as "So no one goes hungry."
