Southington To Honor Sept. 11, 2001 Victims
Community is invited to attend a special ceremony at the town's 9/11 Memorial on Sunday, Sept. 11.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — The town will host a special ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11, to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The event will take place at 8:46 a.m. that day at the town's 9/11 Memorial in Plantsville, which is located at the corner of Summer and Main streets.
The ceremony starts at the same time that American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Center, the first of four airplanes to be weaponized by terrorists that fateful day.

Another plane was crashed into the World Trade Center in New York while two others crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and another crashed in a a Pennsylvania field, respectively.
The service will reflect on the events that took place on that date in 2001.

Members of the Southington fire and police departments, town officials, civic organizations and community residents are invited to attend the service to remember and honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
It's estimated about 3,000 people were killed that day.
The public is encouraged to arrive for the service at 8:30 a.m. to ensure parking is available.
