Southington Teacher Of The Year Honored Prior To Start Of School

SOUTHINGTON, CT — With the arrival of students to classrooms this fall comes the annual announcement of the Southington School System's top teachers.

Over the summer, Southington Public Schools announced that Bethany Rosin, a Spanish teacher at DePaolo Middle School, was chosen as the 2022-23 Teacher of the Year.

She was recognized at the 2022-23 Staff Convocation last month and at a school board meeting.
Rosin has been teaching in Southington since 2005, when she was hired as a Spanish teacher at DePaolo Middle School.

She received her bachelor of arts in political science in May 2003 from the Catholic University of America.

Rosin then went on to earn her teaching certificate in May 2005 and her master of science in educational leadership in May 2016 from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

In December 2020, Rosin completed her doctorate in education also from CCSU.

School officials said she "readily volunteers for committees and activities at DePaolo Middle School such as serving as the STEPS ABC Champion for a number of years."

Currently, Rosin serves on DePaolo’s Leadership Team and has mentored several new teachers at DePaolo.

"Rosin describes a major issue in education today as the need to retain teachers, especially post-pandemic," wrote the school system. "She believes in the importance of a comprehensive teacher induction in order to strengthen the skills and confidence of new teachers."

Rosin resides in Southington with her husband Pat and their children.

In addition, Southington Public Schools announced Kevin Curtiss as the High School Teacher of the Year and Jennifer Dobratz the Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Curtiss has been teaching at Southington High School for 15 years and Dobratz has been teaching third-grade at Derynoski for the past 22 years.
