Southington Hopes to Avoid Costs from Damage on Town Green
The Town Green clock broke and state workers damaged lines during a lights project.

The Town Green is in need of repairs after a construction accident occurred during a state project.
Recently, state workers digging in the area to run a conduit for new streetlights hit several of the town’s electrical lines in the process, causing substantial damage, according to minutes of the Park Board’s Aug. 1 meeting.
The damage took place on July 22, according to a Record Journal article. and ended up costing the town $8,000 to repair. But, since the damage was caused by state workers who were forewarned about where they could and could not dig, Town Manager Gary Brumback said he hopes to be reimbursed by the state.

Also at the Town Green, the clock is broken again, the minutes said. A new controller for the clock was installed just last year at a cost of $5,500 and has failed. Fortunately, it is still under warranty, so the town should not incur any additional cost, park superintendent Michael Manware said.
