Southington Italian Festival To Close Part Of Street Starting Friday: Police

Road closures and fireworks are planned as the Southington Italian American Festival returns July 24-26 in downtown Southington.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Drivers should expect road closures and traffic changes this weekend as the Southington Italian American Festival returns to downtown Southington.

According to the Southington Police Department, the festival will run Friday, July 24, through Sunday, July 26, on Center Street between North Liberty Street and High Street.

That section of Center Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, July 24, and will remain closed until 10 p.m. Sunday, July 26.

The festival will also feature a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. Friday, July 24.

Police said the fireworks will be launched from the property at 64 Mill St., home to the Southington Dog Park.

To prepare for the display, the dog park will close to the public beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, July 24, and is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, July 25, after the fireworks event.

Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and use caution when traveling through the downtown area during the festival weekend.
