Southington Library, Hartford Comedy Group Team Up For Special Program
The library will host a special improvisational comedy course for special needs adults this summer, ending with a public show in August.
SOUTHINGTON/HARTFORD, CT — The Southington Public Library and a Hartford-based comedy troupe are teaming up for a very special program involving intellectually and developmentally disabled (IDD) adults.
The library and the Sea Tea Comedy Theater are teaming up to provide a three-week, improvisational comedy course for IDD adults.
Registration for the program begins on Thursday, June 29.

The classes take place Thursday, July 20; Thursday, July 27; and Thursday, Aug. 3. The culminating event is on Thursday, Aug. 10, at 6:30 p.m. where program participants will put on a comedy show for the public.
All classes, which will be taught by members of Sea Tea, and the performance will take place at The Calendar House, Southington’s senior center, 388 Pleasant St.

"Students will be guided through increasingly challenging exercises, group discussion, reflection and practice, while strengthening verbal and non-verbal communication skills, teamwork and confidence," wrote the library in announcing the program.
Space is limited and registration is required and registrants must be available for all event dates.
"To ensure the needs of all participants being met, the library requires registrants not living independently be accompanied by family, caregivers, and/or staff of their residential settings," wrote the library.
This project is funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by Connecticut State Library.
