Southington Library To Launch New Computer System In June; Service Changes Begin In May

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Public Library will transition to a new computer system and online catalog later this month, with a full launch expected June 3, library officials announced.

The upgrade is part of a consortium-wide migration by Library Connection to the Polaris system, which officials say will improve catalog navigation and overall user experience.

During the transition, several services will be temporarily limited.

Beginning May 12, patrons placing holds on items from other libraries will need to pick them up at the owning library rather than their usual pickup location.

Holds placed before that date will continue to be delivered as normal.

Additional restrictions will take effect May 26, when staff will be unable to look up patron accounts or replace library cards.

Library users will need to bring their physical card, a photo of it, or a digital version to check out or renew materials.

Officials said access to digital services, including Libby, Kanopy, Flipster, and Mango Languages, will not be affected.

Library staff said the new system is expected to provide “better service” and a more user-friendly experience once fully implemented.

Updates will be shared through the library’s website and weekly newsletter as the transition progresses.
