Southington Man Killed In Crash Just Prior To 80th Birthday

The vehicle he was driving slammed into a tree Monday morning, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A local man who would have turned 80 on Tuesday was pronounced dead after a single-vehicle crash in Southington Monday morning.

According to the Southington Police Department, the victim was identified as 79-year-old James Michlewski of Southington.

According to the SPD, the crash happened just before 5:50 a.m. Monday morning, when police were notified of a one-car motor vehicle collision into a tree at 133 Meriden Ave.

Police said initial reports were the lone occupant/driver was unconscious behind the vehicle's wheel.

The SPD said Michlewski was transported to New Britain General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead and the family has been notified.

The Southington Police Accident Investigation Team is leading up the investigation, which required Meriden Avenue being shut down between Oakland and Southington Avenue.
