Southington Man Killed By Falling Branch In Fairfield: Police

The 21-year-old was driving beneath the branch when it fell.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Southington man was killed by a falling tree limb Wednesday in Fairfield, according to police. Jarrod Marotto, 21, was driving northbound in the 3500 block of Park Avenue when a large cottonwood limb was struck by lightning and fell, hitting Marotto, Fairfield police stated in a news release. The incident was reported at 5:16 p.m.

Officers found Marotto unconscious in the driver's seat and he was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, where he died of his injuries, according to police. Marotto was the only person in the vehicle when the branch fell.
