Southington Man With Long Criminal History Charged in Choking Incident

The man is currently being held, records indicate.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A man with a long criminal history in Southington is in custody on a high bond for what police are describing as a drunken weekend choking incident.

Christian Bedard, 41, was arrested on Friday night and appeared in court Monday to answer a trio of charges, including second-degree strangulation, police said. His initial bond was set at $50,000, but a judge upped the ante to $75,000, which he did not post, according to court records.

Bedard has not entered a plea and is due back in court on April 25, court records indicate.

Police said Bedard was allegedly intoxicated and became involved in an argument with the victim, whose name is not being released because of the domestic nature of the case.

During the course of the argument, Bedard first threatened to choke the victim and then did so by
wrapping his hands around the victim’s neck and squeezing, police said.

The victim resisted and Bedard let go of the hold and left the room, police said. The victim then called the police, authorities said.

The victim though reporting difficulty breathing while being choked, refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

Bedard has a long criminal history in town. See the details here.
