
Donald B. Fries, 94, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 21, 2016 at HOCC of New Britain. He had been the loving husband of Lorraine (Harriott) Fries for 60 years.
Born on January 30, 1922 in Middlefield to the late Frederick and Annie (Meek) Fries, he had been a longtime Southington resident.
Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy serving both campaigns of WWII, the Atlantic and the Pacific. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Meriden. He enjoyed bowling, singing, especially in the church choir, and dancing at the local senior centers.

Donald is survived by his two sons; James Fries and his wife Sandra of East Hampton and Frederick Fries and his wife Maria of Cocoa Beach, FL and his daughter Doreen Sward and her husband George of Plantsville. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-granddaughters, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Donald B. Fries; 2 brothers, Robert and Ted Fries and his sister, Christine Vanasse.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held before the service from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
