Southington PD: $3,100 Raised For A Jump In A Cold Lake

The Southington Police Department was in full force during the 2023 Sloper Plunge late last month.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — If you want to see a group of Southington Police Department members looking very, very uncomfortable, just look them up on Facebook.

That's because the department announced over the weekend the final results of the SPD's participation in the 18th Annual Sloper Plunge, which took place Feb. 25 on one of those rare, snowy days this year.

And while they should be comfortable with the results of the fundraiser, the means to raise the fund was hardly confortable — jumping in a lake while the snowflakes fell.

The SPD officially congratulated the members who jumped in the lake to raise money for scholarships to Camp Sloper, the Southington Community YMCA's summer camp at 1000 East St., Southington.

In total, Southington police raised $3,100 for camp scholarships, allowing many cash-strapped families to still be able to send their children to summer camp.

While the weather this winter has, generally, been mild by New England standards (Tuesday and Wednesday's nor'eastern notwithstanding), the 2023 Sloper Plunge made for some dramatic visuals as it happened during a heavy snow shower.

"A big cold 'THANK YOU' plunge to those that provided donations and support for this year’s event," wrote the SPD.
