WATCH: Police Cars Damaged In Crash-Filled Melee In Southington Parking Lot
The SPD said recently installed license plate-reading cameras played a role in capturing a stolen car operated by two accused drug dealers.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Two Waterbury men are in custody after an intense incident involving a stolen vehicle, guns and drugs, with the stolen vehicle ramming several others, including police cars, in a parking lot.
The Southington Police Department is crediting a recently installed camera alert system that reads license plates for aiding in the suspects' apprehension Thursday evening.
According to the SPD Friday morning, the men charged are Damon Davis, 28, of 50 North Ridge Drive, Waterbury, and Tiomonte Morgan, 27, of 106 Stonefield Drive, Unit 7, Waterbury.

Morgan, meanwhile, has been charged with criminal attempt at second-degree assault; first-degree larceny; criminal possession of a firearm; possession of a machine gun; weapons in a motor vehicle; first-degree criminal mischief; possession of stolen firearms; first-degree reckless endangerment; interfering with a police officer; two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell; and possession of a high-capacity magazine.
He is also being held on a $1 million bond pending an appearance in New Britain Superior Court.
Southington police Friday morning released detailed information about the dangerous incident that resulted in the duo's charges.
According to police, at about 7:43 p.m. Thursday, the SPD received a notification from the department's FLOCK license plate reader system installed recently in town.
That alert, police said, indicated a stolen vehicle had just entered Southington.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle in a parking lot at 1664 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike, police said.
According to the SPD, officers then converged on the stolen car and attempted to block it in to prevent it from fleeing.
With Davis behind the wheel, the stolen car then rammed the SPD vehicle that was being used to block him in, according to police.
In attempting to flee, the stolen car continued to ram both the police vehicle and a vehicle parked nearby that was occupied by a driver, police said.
Authorities said Davis then exited the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, quickly being caught by Southington police officers.
Police said Davis was found to be in possession of a handgun with an "obliterated" serial number, 70 bags of fentanyl, and nearly $2,000 in cash.
As Davis was being taken into custody, police said Morgan, who was the stolen vehicle's passenger, then shifted over to the driver's seat and backed the vehicle up.
This resulted in Morgan hitting a commercial building and another unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot in an attempt to escape, police said.
According to the SPD, Morgan then drove the car a short distance through the parking lot, before ramming into another Southington police cruiser.
Officers, police said, converged on the vehicle again and Morgan attempted to escape by ramming two other police vehicles.
This eventually resulted in the stolen vehicle becoming disabled, allowing officers to gain entry into the vehicle via the driver's side window and remove Morgan from the car, police said.
Inside the car, police found a Glock handgun on the driver's side floor, one that was later determined to be stolen, police said, adding it was also modified to be a "fully automatic weapon."
In addition, police discovered 610 bags of fentanyl packaged for sale; 6.6 grams of powdered fentanyl; 7.1 grams of powdered cocaine; 1.5 ounces of crack cocaine; and other drug paraphernalia, police said.
According to police, the vehicle used by the suspects had fled from the Middletown Police Department earlier that evening and damaged one of that city's police vehicles.
Over the summer, the Southington Town Council unanimously voted to pursue the FLOCK notification system, doing so amid some concerns about privacy and monitoring vehicles in town.
Police, though, told council members the cameras are a tool similar to already-in-use police cameras on dashboards and officer uniforms.
