Southington PD Mourns Death Of Retired Canine

'Lou' had served with the Southington Police Department for about seven years, retiring in 2021.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The local police department is mourning the loss of one of its own with the recent passing of a now-retired police dog.

The Southing Police Department Saturday announced the death of retired K9 "Lou," who served the SPD for about seven years.

Lou retired in 2021 and he worked with SPD canine officer Sgt. Stephen Salerno, who is retired from the department as well.

The late canine was living with Salerno at the time of his death.

"Our thoughts are with Sgt. Salerno and his family," wrote the SPD.

The Southington Fire Department also expressed its condolensces.

"Some sad news from SPD. Rest in peace K9 Lou," wrote the SFD via social media.
