SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Police Department this week is mourning the loss of one of their own as a retired police dog has died.

The SPD broke the news Monday on its Facebook page, reporting that retired police K-9 "Kira" had died after battling a "deteriorating health condition."

Police posted images of Kira with her partner, retired SPD officer Melvin Emond.
