Southington PD Raising Money For Youth Cadet Program
The GoFundMe campaign will help the SPD send members of its youth cadet program to a special police training summer camp.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the Southington Police Department Cadet Program.
SPD Cadets are young people aged 14-20 who volunteer and train for possible careers in law enforcement.
It is seen as a key, gateway to students interested in careers in law enforcement.

According to the SPD, proceeds of the GoFundMe campaign will help Southington's young cadets attend the state's summer Cadet Police Academy.
"The Southington Police Department offers this program to extend education and training to young adults who have completed the eighth grade and are interested in law enforcement," wrote police in a statement.

The program emphasizes five areas: career opportunities, service learning, leadership experience, life skills, and character education.
"Programs like Southington’s Cadet Program have a powerful positive effect on our cadets in various situations, connecting young people with role models to foster personal growth, development, and social and economic opportunity," wrote the SPD.
The goal is to raise $7,500 to cover the $750 cost per person to attend the summer academy.
