Southington PD Ups Traffic Enforcement This Week And Next
The SPD is participating in the statewide 'Click-It or Ticket' campaign against seat belt/traffic regulation violators.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Motorists cruising through Southington had better keep their eyes off their phones, buckle up, and drive with courtesy.
That's because the Southington Police Department announced Friday it is participating in a statewide traffic enforcement initiative that started on Thanksgiving and continues to Dec. 1.
"During this time, motorists can expect an increase in traffic enforcement within the Town of Southington," wrote the SPD in an announcement Friday.

The program is called Click-It or Ticket Wave Program and, while the name of the initiative directly refers to seat belt law enforcement, the law enforcement practices behind it go beyond just that.
According to the SPD, the goal of the campaign is to increase seat belt use from 93.5 percent in 2023 to 94 percent by next year.

Meanwhile, Southington police will have their eyes peeled for other traffic violations as well, from drunk to reckless to distracted driving
"In addition to the objectives listed above, the Southington Police Department is looking to continue its proactive enforcement for motor vehicle violations," wrote the SPD.
"We believe that by educating the public on the dangers of not wearing a seat belt, we can help to reduce the number of injuries/fatalities that are experienced each year."
