Southington PD Warns Of Phone Scam Seeking Cash

Southington police report someone has cloned its phone number and is calling people claiming to be the SPD seeking money.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police are warning residents of a phone scam that has folks believing the Southington Police Department is collecting money.

Police this week emphatically said they are not doing that and never would.

"Unfortunately, individual(s) have utilized applications to clone our department phone number and agency name," wrote the SPD in a statement on social media.

As a result, residents have received a phone call from the department's 860-378-1600 number with the identification listed as The Southington Police Department.

"The mentioned phone calls are fraudulent and a scam," wrote the SPD. "Our police department would never contact our town residents and demand money."
