Southington Police To Carry Torch For Special Olympics
Southington Police Department members will be participating Thursday in the annual law enforcement torch run for CT Special Olympics.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police will be out in full force Thursday to support Connecticut Special Olympics, whose 2023 summer games are slated to kick off this weekend and resume June 10-11.
Before the games begin, however, area law enforcement agencies are participating in the 2023 Connecticut Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
During these events, area police — including members of the Southington Police Department — run through their respective communities with the Special Olympics torch.

Starting at about 11:30 a.m. at the Route 10 park-and-ride lot, officers will make their way through the Southington community, ending at the Berlin town line on Kensington Roade at 1:02 p.m.
In between, residents can stop at multiple checkpoints to cheer the officers on as they embark on their noble journey.

"The Southington Police Department is grateful for our partnership with the community and appreciate all of the support with this event," wrote the SPD. "Please feel free to stop by any of these locations to support our department through the run."
The actual Special Olympics contests start Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4, with cycling, swimming, soccer and tennis.
Then the games continue Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11, with racewalking and track and field field events.
Competitions will take place at multiple venues in Connecticut.
