Southington Police Dogs Get 'Generous' Donation
The Main Street Community Foundation this week awarded the Southington Police Department a donation to help care for SPD canines.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police dogs and the Southington Police Department's emotional support dog got a boost this week thanks to a donation from a regional organization.
The Southington Police Department announced a $3,000 donation from the Bristol-based "Main Street Community Foundation."
Proceeds of the donation will help handle expenses for the care of "Luke Jacob," who is the SPD's emotional support canine, as well as the department's two police dogs, "Tank" and "Kay."

Jacob Perkins was a young Southington High School graduate who tragically died by suicide at the age of 20.
The fund was set up by the foundation in 2020, one year after Perkins' death, to support the SPD's canines, a tribute to Perkins' love of dogs, and to remember Perkins' legacy.
In fact, the SPD's emotional support dog was named after Perkins.
The Main Street Community Foundation Inc. is a regional, Bristol-based nonprofit that actually serves the Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott communities.
It was created in 1995 to aid area community initiatives financially, providing much-needed boosts when necessary.
