Southington Police To Have Drunk Driving Checkpoint
The Southington PD is working to crack down on drunk drivers as the state itself combats a wave of bad crashes, injuries and deaths.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police later this week will begin a post-holiday season, winter traffic campaign with a checkpoint in town targeting drunk drivers.
The Southington Police Department has announced it will have the first of two winter drunk driving checkpoints on Friday, Jan. 27.
It will take place on Queen Street in the area of Interstate 84 between the hours of 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday.

The second checkpoint of the winter will be on Saturday Feb. 4 at a yet-to-be-determined time and location.
Police officials said the checkpoint is one of several enforcement intiatives promoting safe travel at a time where accidents causing injury or death, pedestrian collisions and, generally, reports of reckless driving are skyrocketing statewide.

"This checkpoint is part of the Southington Police Department’s effort to reduce accidents and
injuries related to driving under the influence and help provide safe travel," the SPD said in a statement. "Signs will be posted in the area advising motorists of the checkpoint."
