Southington Police Looking Into Reports of Mysterious Explosion

Several calls came into police about a loud noise

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington police are investigating reports of a mysterious explosion that apparently took place on Monday.

On Monday at about 10:30 a.m., the Southington Police Department received multiple calls

reporting a loud explosion, police said.

The reports were from the center of Southington extending to the Wolcott and Cheshire town lines, police said.

A majority of the calls appeared to be concentrated in the Southwest portion of town, police said.

In all, police received between 30 and 40 calls at the time. The Southington Police Dept. and Southington Fire Department sent units to investigate and were unable to locate the origin of the explosion, police said.

There were no calls of power outages, property damage or calls of smoke in Southington associated with the explosion, police said. Police checked with surrounding towns (Cheshire, Wolcott and Waterbury) and all reported receiving complaints of a similar sound and they also reported not finding the cause of the explosion, police said.

Dispatchers also contacted local energy companies who reported no incidents that would have caused the explosion.

At this time the origin of the explosion is unknown, police said.
