Southington Police Meet-And-Greet: Sgt. Matthew Hammell

SOUTHINGTON, CT — This week's Southington Police Department meet-and-greet features Sgt. Matthew Hammell.

Hammell has been a member of The Southington Police Department for eight years. Prior to his promotion, Hammell was a field training officer.

"Sergeant Hammell consistently demonstrated the principles of personnel development as it relates to community service and exemplary conduct," police said.

As a supervisor, Hammell is assigned to the "overwatch shift" in the SPD's patrol division.

Hammell specializes in police use of force and deescalation strategies and serves as a certified instructor for the police academy and the local agency. In addition, Hammell is a member of the regional emergency response team.

Hammell has emphasized his involvement in community service and has participated in several events in his hometown.
