Southington Police Nab 15 Cell Phone-Using Drivers On The 15th

It was part of a statewide campaign to enforce distracted driving laws.

SOUTHINGTON, CT - A recent effort to crack down on distracted driving in town led to 15 tickets issued for vehicular cell phone use in one day.

That was on April 15, police said.

One cell phone use ticket was written the day before and four on April 12, police said.

The extended enforcement efforts are part of the annual “U Drive. U Text. U Pay” campaign in which state DOT Highway Safety Office and local police departments team up to enforce distracted driving violations for National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

The enhanced enforcement effort will run until the end of this month.

During the 2015 “U Drive. U Text. U Pay,” campaign, law enforcement officers across the state issued more than 22,000 citations, police said.
