SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington police on Monday gave an update regarding pistol permit applications and fingerprinting for pistol permit applications conducted by the local department.

Here are the updated rules:

Effective (June 1) the Southington Police Department will begin contacting our citizens that applied for pistol permits prior to the outbreak of theCOVID-19 pandemic. If you applied for a permit you will be receiving a phone call from our Records Division to make an appointment to pick up your permit.
We ask that you not come down to pick up your permit without an appointment. Please be sure to bring your photo identification when you pick up your permit and to wear a face covering.
Starting the week of June 8, 2020 we will again be conducting fingerprinting for pistol permit applicants
and we will start accepting pistol permit applications. Applicants that need to be fingerprinted for a pistol permit will be required to bring their own face covering and to wear it in the building. They will also be required to wear a face shield, which will be provided by the Southington Police
Department, unless the applicant chooses to bring their own face shield. Upon entering the police department the applicant’s temperature will be checked prior to fingerprints being taken. In order to be fingerprinted the applicant’s temperature must be under 100.4 Fahrenheit. The fingerprinting of applicants for a pistol permit will be conducted by appointment only.
We will be providing more information on the process for making appointments in the coming days.
The information above is for pistol permit applicants only. We will be providing information on
fingerprinting for other applicants in the near future.

"Once again the Southington Police Department would like to thank our citizens for their understanding and patience as we all work through this pandemic together. Stay Healthy."
