Southington Police: Vacuum Theft Alleged To Be Inside Job
A number of vacuums were reported stolen at a distributorship, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A sore manager
On Feb. 8, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Albert Hayes, 38 of Southington, came to the Southington Police Headquarters and surrendered after learning of a warrant for his arrest.
Hayes was processed and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree larceny, providing a false statement and falsely reporting an incident in he second degree, police said.

Hayes was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and given a court appearance date of Feb. 21, police said.
On Jan. 2, the Southington Police Dept. received a report of a burglary at Northeast Distributors
located at 1678 Meriden Waterbury Trpke. The warrant alleges that the store distributor reported someone
entered the building through a damaged side window and stole Eight Kirby vacuums and then exited the building through the same window.

During the course of the investigation, Detectives began to develop evidence that the burglary may not have actually occurred and that the store manager, Albert Hayes, may be responsible for the theft of the vacuums and also staging the burglary.
It is also alleged that Hayes gave a false statement during the course of the investigation.
Based on their findings and the investigation, Detectives applied for an arrest warrant for Hayes, police said.
