Southington PZC OK's Construction Company's Expansion Plans
The company plans to increase its parking and storage capacity.
SOUTHNGTON, CT — A local construction company has received the town's go-ahead to expand its parking situation and its storage capacity at its headquarters in town.
The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission last month voted 7-0 to approve a site plan modification for Mohawk Northeast Inc. to build a new parking area and equipment storage facility on its 243 Canal St. property.
Mohawk Northeast's site is already zoned industrial, so a public hearing wasn't required at the June 20 PZC meeting prior to the PZC's approval that night.

Commissioners did pass the measure with the stipulation that minor engineering and health department comments are addressed.
Town officials did have minor concerns associated with the project's impact on a nearby public Rails to Trails area, namely if the new work would be visible to trail users and if it would create water runoff that could negatively impact the trail itself.

But engineer Severino Bovino, of Kratzer Jones & Associates out of Milldale in Southington, said there would be no impacts.
"There's a good tree buffer and a brush buffer," Bovino said at the last PZC meeting. "We are not going to interfere in that area."
