Southington Schools To Close Early Due To Heat

The decision will keep Southington students out of the buildings during the warmest part of the day Thursday.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington School System announced Wednesday it will dismiss early on Thursday due to the early September heat wave this week, according to local reports.

The early dismissal will be on Thursday, Sept. 7, when temperatures are expected into the 90s with high humidity.

It will only be for Southington's elementary schools, according to a list compiled by WFSB Channel 3. The high school and the town's two middle schools are not impacted, according to WFSB.

This is so students will be out of the buildings, which are mostly not air conditioned, during the hottest part of the day.

It's a step other school districts have undertaken to combat the hot-weather spell.
