Southington To Seek Emergency Management Funding

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local officials last week formally approved seeking an additional $20,000 to $25,000 in federal funding to help the town pay for emergency management services.

The Southington Town Council easily approved a resolution seeking an Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG), a federally funded, state-administered program to help towns nationwide cover emergency management costs.

The EMPG is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its funding is administered by state officials.

As an example, the grant funding helps Southington pay for payroll of emergency management staff, technical equipment and services such as high-speed internet, phones and radios.

Mark J. Sciota, town manager for Southington, said the town needs between $20,000 and $25,000 to aid in emergency management costs.

Local leaders agreed and, with little discsussion, easily approved the necessary actions to obtain the grant funding.
