SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington's town greens are picturesque images of simpler, idealistic times — visions of small-town charm even if the community has grown and been developed.

And that's when they're not adorned with holiday lights and decorations.

But when the calendar turns to December, the greens become a Christmas cornucopia of holiday bliss right from a "Currier & Ives" card.

As a result, the Southington Parks & Recreation Department is looking for two children to flip the switches and transform the greens into holiday wonderlands at the start of December.

The holiday light display on the Southington Town Green will be officially turned on for the season on Friday, Dec. 2, at 5:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Plantsville Town Green's display will be turned on the following week, Thursday, Dec. 8, at 5:30 p.m.

"The recreation department would like to invite two resident children (one for each location) to flip the switches and light up the night," reads a Town of Southington announcement.

Southington residents (which include residents of Plantsville, Marion and Milldale) ages 3 to 10 are eligible to be entered online for a chance to be chosen as one of the official "switch flippers."

Immediate family members of the selected children are welcome to assist on the day of the event.
One entry per child will be accepted and duplicate entries will be discarded.

Entries will only be accepted via submission of the online form.

Winners will be selected from a random drawing of all eligible entries on Monday, Nov. 28, and will be notified by telephone.
