SOUTHINGTON – The town's senior center recently received a major fiscal boost from the state, funding that will improve the facility and its programs.

State Rep. Chris Poulos, D-Southington, recently announced $99,700 in funding for capital improvements for the Calendar House, a community social, resource, and education facility for adults 55 and older in Southington. It is located at 388 Pleasant St.

Poulos said the funding is from the final allocations of the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), part of legislation passed by the Connecticut General Assembly during the 2024 session and signed into law by Gov. Ned Lamont.

"This funding will be put to good use at the Calendar House by expanding activities and improving the facility," said Poulos. "Between this funding and passing Public Act 24-39 during the 2024 session, I am proudly voting to support our aging and active senior populations with the attention and resources that they deserve."

According to state Rep. Jane Garibay, D-Windsor, chair of the House Aging Committee, funding like this shows a commitment to the elderly.

"This funding is a great illustration of Connecticut's dedication to elderly residents in our state," she said. "Places like Calendar House provide older individuals with much-needed resources, such as community, entertainment, and activities."

Added David Lapreay, director of senior services fo Southington: “We are extremely grateful for the funding secured by Rep. Poulos that will greatly benefit and enhance the Southington Calendar House/Senior Center facility with a variety of building improvements and activity enhancements. Our senior population will benefit immensely.”

ARPA funding has an obligation deadline of Dec. 31 and an expenditure deadline of Dec. 31, 2026.
