Southington Sewers Getting Refurb, Water Users Impacted

Because of the work, which begins this week, local water customers are asked to refrain from excess water use for much of the day.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The town's sewer lines are getting a major upgrade starting this week and doing so doesn't even require digging them up.

But as a town-hired contractor gets to work, local officials are asking folks to refrain from excess water usage during much of the day.

According to the Town of Southington's public works department, the method for rehabbing the sewer lines — which takes liquid (and solid) waste away — is called "cured, in-place pipelining."

Basically, a special liner is inserted into an existing sewer line and, after some activation, a seamless stretch of pipe is created.

Southington has hired Green Mountain Pipeline Services of Bethel, Vt., to do the job.

"The method being used will provide a new, joint-less sewer pipe that minimizes root and water infiltration, improves flow, and provides a more structural sound pipe without costly excavation," wrote the Town of Southington.

Work is, generally, scheduled between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

"During these times, we ask that you limit your water usage. You will receive a notice when your service has been restored," wrote the Town of Southington.

The following streets were scheduled:

• Foley Drive from #82 to #232 starting Tuesday, Nov. 28, through Wednesday, Nov. 29.

• Parkview Drive from Lois Avenue to Florence Lane starting on Wednesday, Nov. 29, through Thursday, Nov 30.

There will be no work scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1.

The schedule will be updated and posted on the Website.
