Southington Shuts Down Public Swimming Pool For Year
It is being shuttered for renovations, with the other public park pool still open this year.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — On a brutally cold winter day, Southington town officials Friday announced the year-long closure of a popular place in Southington to beat the heat — albeit for good reasons.
With temperatures plunging into the single digits Friday and wind chill factors going below zero, the Town of Southington announced the Recreation Park pool will be closed throughout the entire 2023 season.
This is so the town can renovate the pool and pool house, with locals in 2024 being able to beat the heat at a brand-new facility at 25 Maxwell Noble Drive, Plantsville.

Southington officials did remind folks that the pool area at Veterans Memorial Park, 776 Woodruff St., Southington, will be open for 2023.
Last fall, the Southington Town Council approved a $1.3 million pool renovation at Recreation Park.

The project involves adding a hardend, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) liner in the pool, protecting it from leaks in the foundation of the 35-year-old structure.
In addition, the pool house adjacent to the swimming area will also get a much-needed makeover.
Funding for the project is coming from post-Covid American Rescue Plan Act funding, so no borrowed or local tax dollars are being utilized.
