Southington Tobacco Ordinance Takes Effect
Southington now has its own tobacco compliance ordinance.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — On May 6, the Southington Police Department and the STEPS Coalition completed the local "Tobacco 21 Merchant Awareness Initiative," in conjunction with a new tobacco compliance ordinance that can be enforced locally.
Cops and STEPS members went to local businesses that were unable to attend the two
information sessions about the ordinance. The purpose of these visits was to provide them with a copy of the ordinance, permit application, and signage regarding the new town ordinance Regarding Tobacco 21, police said.

The ordinance makes it a violation of the Southington Town Ordinances to sell tobacco and tobacco products to anyone younger than 21. The ordinance was approved by the Southington Town Council on March 11 and went into effect on April 4.
