Southington Unveils 2026–27 School Budget Hearing/Workshop Schedule

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington Public Schools has released the timeline for finalizing the 2026–27 education budget, outlining key opportunities for public input before the spending plan advances to the Southington Town Council.

District officials said the proposed budget reflects the broader role schools play in the community.

“Investing in our schools is an investment right here at home,” officials said in a statement. “Strong public schools help protect property values, attract families and businesses, and keep our community vibrant.”

They added that school funding has townwide implications.

“Even residents without children in the schools benefit when our town remains a place people want to live, work, and stay,” officials said. “Education funding is about community stability, not just classrooms.”

The next phase of the process shifts to the Southington Board of Finance, which will review the proposal, hold a public hearing, and conduct workshops before issuing a recommendation to the Southington Town Council.

The process actually started last week when the Southington Board of Education sent its budget to the Southington Board of Finance.

Key dates in the budget process are:

• Monday, March 2, 7 p.m — Southington Board of Finance public hearing on the proposed budget at John F. Kennedy Middle School auditorium, 1971 S. Main
• Wednesday, March 4, 6:30 p.m. — Southington Board of Finance Workshop No. 1 at Southington Town Hall, Lower Conference Room, 75 Main St.
• March 11, 6:30 p.m. — Southington Board of Finance Workshop No. 2, if needed, at town hall, Lower Conference Room.
• March 25, 7 p.m. — Southington Board of Finance votes on its budget recommendation to the Southington Town Council at Town Hall, Council Chambers.

The Southington Town Council is expected to take up the Southington Board of Finance recommendation following its March 25 vote.
