Southington Woman Charged Over Injured Child

She did not supervise the child properly, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT - A Southington woman has been charged with child neglect in a case that can be traced back to New Year's Day, police said.

On Jan. 1, the Southington Police Department received a report from the state Department of Children and Families that an 11-month-old girl was brought to the Hospital of Central Connecticut Bradley Memorial Hospital with numerous head injuries, police said.

The injuries were "highly suspicious for abuse," police said they were told.

An investigation determined that the girl was solely in the care of her mother, Brittany DeMasi, when she sustained numerous injuries to her face and head, police said.

DeMasi was not able to provide any explanation for the injuries, and, according to an arrest warrant, DeMasi neglected to provide "adequate supervision of the victim."

DeMasi, 26, of Carter Lane, Southington, surrendered Monday after learning there was a warrant for her arrest., police said.

DeMasi was charged with risk of Injury to child, police said.

DeMasi was processed and released on a $5,000 non-surety bond, appeared in court, and is due back in court on May 19, according to judicial system records.
