Southington YMCA Gymnastics Competes In National Championship

From Southington-Cheshire YMCA: Recently, the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA Gymnastics team traveled to Savannah, Georgia to compete in the 2017 National YMCA Gymnastics Championship. This competition is the biggest event for the YMCA Gymnastics season with over 1,500 athletes qualified to compete from around the country. The gymnasts representing the Southington YMCA were Aurora Miller, Ella Dubitsky, Gabriela Quirk, Hannah Cooley, Sammie Freyler, Jillian MillerRiley Corr, Samantha Miller, Alyssa Ferreira, Gabrielle Ferreira, Victoria Verrilli, Amelia Gagner, and Kelsey Lamson. As a whole the Connecticut YMCA teams was ahead of the pack with athletes on the podium in every division which they were eligible.

The Southington YMCA gymnastics team brought home 26 medals and several National Division Titles. The 2017 national champion title holders from the Southington YMCA are Gabriela Quirk (Level 3
Bars), Alyssa Ferreira (Level 5 Bars and All Around), Kelsey Lamson (Xcel Gold Vault, Beam, and
All Around), and Amelia Gagner (Level 7 Vault and All Around). Gymnast Hannah Cooley, Level 4,
placed second in her age division, but also second out of all 253 athletes competing in Level 4.
Level 3 gymnast Gabriela Quirk also placed second on bars with a score of 9.575. She also placed
second not just in her age division, but also second out of all 308 athletes from around the country
competeing in Level 3. All Southington top ten placements are below. Tryouts for the 2017-2018
