STEPS Group To Host Anti-Drug Rally Oct. 18

The Southington Drug Task Force hosting its 31st annual Red Ribbon Rally on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The local youth community is expected to come out in full force for a rally Tuesday, Oct. 18, proclaiming its commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.

The Southington Drug Task Force hosting its 31st annual Red Ribbon Rally on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the Southingotn Town Green, 75 Main St.

If it rains, the event will be held at DePaolo Middle School, 385 Pleasant St.

Trish Kenefick, the longtime chairperson of the Drug Task Force, announced the theme for this year’s rally is “Drug Free Looks Like Me.”

Sports teams and organizations are invited to sign the traditional Red Ribbon Banner as a symbol of their commitment to remain drug-free.

Coaches and advisors are also invited to stand on stage with their students to share a prevention message.

“We encourage teams and clubs to share what inspires them to be drug-free and how using substances could impact their futures,” explained Kenefick.

Southington’s Town-Wide Effort to Promote Success (STEPS) brings together representatives from 13 community sectors to build developmental assets by providing Southington youth with the relationships, opportunities, and social-emotional strengths they need to live successful, substance-free lives.
