Southington's Health Department Announces Cold Weather Protocols

Frigid temperatures are expected next week, with Gov. Ned Lamont issuing cold-wether protocols on Friday, Jan. 17.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The health department serving Southington Friday afternoon issued a warning about the severe cold about to hit the state next week.

Coinciding with Gov. Ned Lamont's reinstatement of cold-weather protocols Friday, the Southington-based South Central Health District urged vigilance for residents of Southington, Plainville and Middlefield.

"This coming week will bring the coldest weather we've experienced so far this season," wrote the health department.

Lamont's protocols take effect Sunday, Jan. 19, and last through Friday, Jan. 24.

Southington's warming centers will be open next week as well, with the locations being the brand-new Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., and the Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St., during regular business hours.

If shelter is needed when those two sites are closed, the Southington Police Department serves as a backup warming center, at 69 Lazy Lane.

The health district urged folks needing a warm place to state to call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org.
