Southington's Poulos To Seek New Term In House

The veteran educator, who was elected to his first term in 2022, said he expects to qualify for state campaign funds.

SOUTHINGTON, CT – State Rep. Chris Poulos, D-Southington, confirmed Tuesday he is seeking a second term for office and he expects to qualify for state election campaign funds as well.

Poulos was first elected to the legislature in 2022 for the 81st House District, which is comprised of most of Southington.

On Tuesday, he said he anticipates exceeding the required contributions and signatures to qualify for the Citizens Election Program.

Poulos representatives plan to meet with the State Election Enforcement Commission (SEEC) early next month to submit the campaign’s application for state financing.

“I am extremely humbled by the enthusiasm and financial support that I have received from Southington residents,” Poulos said.

CEP is a voluntary program that provides elections financing to qualified candidates for statewide offices and the General Assembly.

Poulos said he has spent the month of January on a pre-legislative session listening tour, knocking on doors and meeting with local businesses, leaders and responders.

“I look forward to sharing our community’s legislative priorities with my colleagues in Hartford once the session begins next month,” Poulos said.

Erin Cowles, chair of the Southington Democratic Town Committee, praised Poulos.

“Chris has delivered for Southington,” she said. “The DTC looks forward to officially nominating Chris later this spring.”

Poulos is a lifelong resident of Southington and is a longtime teacher.

“I am committed to a moderate approach that involves compromise, negotiation and working together," Poulos said. "Southington is a great community and I will continue to work hard to fight for what’s best for our town.”
