SOUTHINGTON, CT—The town is embarking on a regularly scheduled revaluation of taxable properties and Southington is keeping residents and taxpayers informed of what to expect.

The state mandates that municipalities regularly take a look at the town's taxable properties to ensure updated market values are used to calculate annual tax bills in a town.

Southington is about to revalue its total grand list for Oct. 1, 2025, with activity expected to ramp up in the coming weeks/months.

In recent days, the Southington Tax Assessor's office has been posting information on the town website about the reval, with Southington Town Manager Alex Ricciardone issuing a reminder Monday night.

To assist the assessor's office, the Town of Southington has hired Fairfield-based Municipal Valuation Services LLC to help with the revaluation.

The company, also known as Munival, will have data collectors fanning out throughout Southington in the coming weeks/months to get the latest information on taxable properties.

This will require revaluation staffers to visit properties in town.

Data collectors will verify exterior measurements of properties and ask to "conduct a brief, interior inspection" as well, according to a Town of Southington notice.

Local officials said Munival staff will have identification badges and possess written documentation "clearly stating the purpose of their visit."

In addition, Munival employees will be driving "clearly marked" vehicles indicating they are working with the Town of Southington assessor's office.

"Homeowners are encouraged to ask for identification before admitting anyone into the premises," wrote the town in an announcement.

Munival workers and their vehicles are listed with the Southington Police Department, Southington Town Manager's office, and the Southington tax assessor's office.
