Staples to Close 70 Stores in 2017 ... Where Does Southington Stand?
Staples announced store closings in an earnings report released Thursday.

Office supply retailer Staples plans to close 70 Stores in 2017.
It has several locations in Hartford and Tolland counties, including Vernon, Enfield, Glastonbury, West Hartford, Newington, Southington and West Simsbury.
An exact hit list has not been released, but they will be in North America, the company said.

Staples made the announcement deep into an earnings report for the fourth quarter of 2016 released Thursday.
According to the earnings report, sales on the continent were down 7.1 percent from the year-end period in 2016.

The company closed 13 stores during the fourth quarter of 2016 and 48 stores for the full year in North America and ended the year with 1,255 stores in the U.S. and 304 stores in Canada, according to the earnings report.
Staples expects earnings per share for the first quarter of 2017 to be between 15 cents to 18 cents, in line with Wall Street's expectation of 17 cents per share, according to the earning report.
